Inspiration on the Desk

Sarah Stockton, in her blog Catalyst at Work asks what her readers keep on their desks as inspiration. I keep a small photo of myself, aged twelve, taken in a photo booth at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto.

Back then I thought fun was around just about every corner.  I want to remember that great energy of my childhood self, that great faith I had in the good in everyone. I think it’s why I do creative work—to try to live in that energy again and send it out in waves.  I agree with Swami Satchidananda—we’re here to have fun.

So I keep that little photo booth picture here beside me because I think that child self is the core of who I am and sometimes I forget and get it wrong.

Cath, that photo is so wonderful, and really expresses so much of what I experience of you when we’ve had the good fortune to spend time together!

Well, there is the occasional black hole that you’ve missed!
    But…thank you!

I keep a little statuette of Pinocchio bought in Disney World in 1978. All of his black hair paint fell off when he briefly resided in my son’s fish tank a few years ago. So now he’s got white hair…very appropriate. He’s doing a little dance and sings ‘Always Let Your Conscience Be Your Guide.’

That’s funny and so wonderful. Good old Pinocchio!
    I’d forgotten that song…but it’s coming back!
