Two Steps Forward, One Back

Just back from my meeting with the Apple man—two steps forward, one back. I’ve made my site too wide so that it can’t be seen properly by people with smaller monitors, so back to the drawing board to change everything. I had so many questions and this lovely young man could hardly keep up. He was awfully good and tried really hard not to knit his brows together but I couldn’t help but see his eyes glaze over a couple of times. He actually had to get his supervisor at one point. The thing is that when you move to something that really is simple like iWeb you do lose a few functions that are not available to Mac. Then, on the other hand, you gain all of the ease of use etc. It’s a bit of a toss-up because you get used to one thing then have to get used to another. But I will forge on.

I could just leave my blog thing here as is and do my art site separately as I have already but it would be cool to have the whole thing in one place because I want the art site to change as I do new things and to keep it vital. And I really would like to be able to bung things up on the blog in a second or two without fuss which is how it will be on iWeb though I can’t file things in Categories like I can here.

At any rate, in the grand scheme, these are just little crumbs of concern…not to be chewed on, just swallowed. It’s a learning curve and I’m still putting one foot in front of another. Monday, I have another meeting and, with luck, the new site will get up next week. But now, back to the digital drawing board!

mdf…but why NOT put the two together? This is a wonderful blog and v. singularly yours.

A visit to a cosmic marketing person might open new venues. They’re out there and you’re well placed to find one. The whole point of the web is that it acts as a spider web to attract whatever. And you get to be the big fat spider in the middle. Yes the web has to be built but there’s many different kinds…some are only one string. They must know SOMETHING!

    Keep it simple,

    Love Kx

mdf—Absolutely…having the two together is the goal. And thanks! Yeah, I’ve just learned about these cosmic marketing folks who know how to put your site into the right places. First things first! Keeping it simple…but every once in a while the techy stuff whacks me on the head! But I’m proceeding as if I know what I’m doing…as usual!

I find it best to just put my head down and plow through as if I have a clue, and by the end I’ve found a clue or two. I’m right now working on a friend’s professional writing website as the programmer. What a hoot! Someone else did the design, and I’m learning as I go how to translate that design into a website that looks EXACTLY like the design. Tricky. Very tricky. Maybe not for someone who knows what the heck they’re doing, but for me, I’m spending a lot of time on w3 reading tutorials and with my face buried in the Dreamweaver Missing Manual. But how cool to be learning it. No, I don’t want to be a programmer, but having the ability is value added to my writing business for sure!

Again, can’t wait to see what you’ve got going!

OK. I’m a little dense. I just realized you have the link to the art site right there in the sidebar. Duh. Looking good! and I like the bottles…but that’s just me. I have my eye on a fantastic painting of glass bottles at the local gallery, but other things are vying for that $500 right now. Alas.

  5. Cathy Says:

Hey, K! Well, that site in the sidebar is coming down…will be making one site for everything. The beauty of iWeb is NO code. Really don’t think I’m capable of learning code at this point but take my hat off to you. There are a few limitations to iWeb but it’s good enough…. Stay tuned, with luck I”ll have the new site up next week or the week after. Good for you for tackling Dreamweaver…you are amazing!!

Another adventure! Apple is so intuitive. It just makes sense, Having things on the internet is an interesting thing—it just grows organically. One thing leads to another which leads to another which leads to another. And on and on it goes.

  7. Cathy Says:

Hi Debra! Yeah, the Mac really is great…makes things so easy. I keep thinking they can’t improve things any more then they do!! And it is cool putting our work and thoughts up on the internet…interesting things happen, for sure!
